Legend of Fry Roti

Short Film | Comedy | 8 min 38 sec

Logline: At her 25th birthday party, a quirky niece seeks dough-mestic harmony as her Navajo and Bengali aunties clash.

My mom is Navajo, my dad is Bengali, and thanks to that confused colonizer in 1492 who got lost at sea, I’ve spent my life fielding identity crises and collecting “both Indian” jokes. Growing up in the South, where my identity was always on the baking sheet, wasn’t easy—but it gave me a deep appreciation for the cultures that shaped me.

I’m a Navajo/Bengali filmmaker who loves a good bread pun and believes that food is more than sustenance—it’s storytelling. Through the metaphor of bread, this film explores cultural identity, family, and the humor found in navigating two vibrant cultures. One thing both sides of my cultures have in common? The Auntie culture—loud, loving, and always the main character energy (as they should be!).

A true loaf affair, LEGEND OF FRY-ROTI: RISE OF THE DOUGH brings "the greatest thing since sliced bread" to the next level.

I wrote this story because I was kneading a comedy that represents my family. This is my directorial debut, and I’m beyond excited to showcase my cultures, my love for puns, and a whole lot of dough-slinging chaos. This is just the first bite—the best is yet to crumb!
